Maddie McCann Siblings Describe Supposed Stalker's Behavior as Deeply Disturbing and Creepy

Maddie McCann twin siblings, Amelie and Sean, have testified in court that their interactions with an alleged stalker were extremely disturbing and unsettling. The siblings explained feeling anxious and frightened by a woman who insisted she was their long-lost sister.

Relentless Communication Detailed as Frightening

Testifying remotely, she stated how the accused, the 24-year-old, reached out to her multiple times through social media and written correspondence. Amelie explained the relentlessness was quite frightening because you don’t know what she’ll do next.

Messages from Wandelt were read in court, in which she recounted recollections of living in the family home that she said were recalled during hypnotherapy. Amelie told the court, It's very disturbing that she's inventing these supposed memories, even though she’s not Madeleine.

Fabricated Pictures Heightened Unease

The court heard that the accused had created images of herself and Amelie as children, which the state alleged were made with ChatGPT. A number of these images were transmitted through social media, while additional ones were produced physically and enclosed in a letter to Amelie.

Amelie said, I didn’t like it, it made me feel very uncomfortable. She had clearly edited the pictures to make me look more like her, which was quite disturbing. I knew I didn't resemble that, I knew it had been changed.

Emotional Toll on the Household

She also discussed the impact of the supposed harassment on her parent, their mother, who gave evidence about being approached at home by Wandelt and her co-defendant, a 61-year-old woman.

I think my mother experienced it as the most difficult. She was targeted by the defendant to a greater extent than the others in the family and I believe it definitely took its toll on her and her wellbeing, Amelie said. It's distressing when a person is pleading with you to believe them and playing with your feelings, to the extent you are doubting your own judgment.

Brother's Testimony on Anxiety and Online Attention

In a witness statement read to the court, Sean McCann said that for him, he had not been too badly affected by Wandelt's accused stalking. However he had been distressed that she was attracting social media scrutiny, with people saying hurtful and unjust comments about his mother and father.

If Wandelt was not mentally ill and was completely conscious she is not Maddie, yet makes these claims, that will be very upsetting for me, he testified. I do not believe she is my sister. The fact that the defendant is engaging in this behavior has caused me a significant amount of anxiety and I find it profoundly disturbing.

The defendant and Spragg have pleaded not guilty to stalking the McCann household. The trial continue.
