Fresh particulars have surfaced about the shocking passing of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their residence home on Sunday.
A source indicates quoting a confidential source, a massage therapist arriving for an appointment initially became concerned after being unable to gain access the house. The therapist then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives close by.
Upon entering the home, Romy found her father's body. Accounts indicate she then fled the house in anguish, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also present. Another individual who had accompanied her contacted 911. Afterward, emergency responders discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Law enforcement have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, along with the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is presently detained and is ineligible for bail.
The person close to the family questioned several initial details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the property, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that time.
Additionally pushed back against widely reported claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "worried" about Nick's behavior in the preceding period. Rather the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement includes accounts of reportedly "unstable" behavior by Nick at a gathering held by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. While the source stated they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they said that claims of a "blow-up" between the two were not correct.
Per law enforcement officials, the coroner had not yet established at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Some media reports indicated the state of their bodies suggested they had been dead for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, roughly 15 miles from the family home. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, said his client had not received medical clearance and would not be present until no sooner than Wednesday.
