Over 36,000 Sudanese citizens have evacuated since capture of El Fasher to Rapid Support Forces, reports UN agency

Over 36,000 people have fled Sudan's Kordofan area eastern sector of Darfur starting Saturday, according to the UN's migration organization.

The key central region between the country's Darfur areas and the Khartoum-Riverine area has over recent weeks become the recent fighting area in the extended civil war between the Sudanese military forces and the paramilitary group.

Massive Evacuation Figures

An estimated 36,825 people fled five areas in North Kordofan province between 26 October and 31 October, per data from the International Organization for Migration.

The civilians, most on foot, traveled to Tawila, a town western side of El Fasher that is currently accommodating over 652,000 evacuated individuals.

Increased Troop Concentration

Citizens of North Kordofan on Monday described a significant increase in both RSF and army concentration across towns and villages throughout the state.

Both armed factions are vying for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan regional capital and a key logistics and command center that joins Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have gathered at the Bara front here," said an RSF member in a recently shared video message.

Local Residents Report Protection Issues

A local inhabitant of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, reported that the number of RSF vehicles had grown significantly since the group's takeover of El Fasher.

"We discontinued traveling to our farms, concerned about clashes," the individual explained.

Another resident, who sought confidentiality for protection purposes, also confirmed that "there has been a significant rise in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the past two weeks.

International Concerns and Appeals

A senior UN official sounded warnings last week about "widespread abuses" and "ethnically motivated reprisals" by RSF in Bara.

The representative alerted to patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF militants have been alleged to commit mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against specific ethnic communities.

The religious leader on Sunday called for an prompt truce and the establishment of humanitarian corridors in Sudan, declaring that attacks on civilians and impediments to humanitarian aid "are producing unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's ambassador to Egypt on Sunday accused RSF of perpetrating war crimes in El Fasher and declared that the Sudanese government would not negotiate with the paramilitary group.

The diplomat further called on the world nations to designate the group as a terrorist entity.
