Person Who Reached For Ariana Grande at Red Carpet Event Banned from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted across a fence and reached for actress Ariana Grande has been deported and barred from Singapore.
The individual, twenty-six, was sentenced to nine days in prison for disrupting public order and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the country's border control stated to Singaporean press.
Wen pushed beyond security and rushed toward the actress and singer, who was participating in the Asian debut for the film on November 13. Co-star Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
The individual has a record of disrupting concerts and high-profile gatherings, including jumping on stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in the past June.
The incident provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with many saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The celebrity has mentioned dealing with PTSD after a explosive incident at her performance in Manchester in May 2017 took the lives of 22 individuals and injured hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the red carpet event twice, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a another effort to cross the barriers. Protection personnel intercepted him and held him in place.
Wen later posted videos expressing gratitude to the star for permitting his access and said he was "released."
Law enforcement detained him the following day and charged him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The District Judge the magistrate was quoted by Channel News Asia as remarking that he was looking for publicity, noting that he was incorrect to think he would not face any penalties.
The singer has not commented on the situation.
The co-star mentioned the situation to NBC, saying that she "only aimed to verify my co-star was secure."
"I believe he didn't intend us injury, but you cannot be certain with such situations, and I sought to make sure that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she stated.
